Packager MLT Vacations has made leadership changes as part of “strategic improvements” in the way MLT works with parent company Delta Air Lines, according to Delta.
CEO Larry Chestler and President Ken Pomerantz are leaving MLT, and their roles will be filled by John Caldwell, who was named president. Chestler and Pomerantz will serve as advisers during the transition.
“Larry and Ken have provided outstanding leadership, and we wish to thank them for their contributions to MLT Vacations’ success,” said Steve Sear, Delta’s senior vice president of global sales, in a memo to travel agents.
Caldwell most recently served as Delta’s managing director of national account sales and specialty sales. His appointment is part of MLT’s effort to “remain competitive and provide a way to work even more closely with our parent company and their resources,” MLT said.
“John has served many years in leadership roles within the sales and marketing organizations at Northwest and now at Delta,” said Sear. “Throughout his career, he has had numerous opportunities to work with MLT Vacations to develop and implement successful programs for travel agent customers, and I know he is looking forward to building even stronger relationships with the travel agent community in his new role.”
Delta said it does not plan to change the way MLT does business with agents, but said that the implementation of strategic improvements will “result in an enhanced level of service for travel agents.” Delta wasn’t more specific than that.
MLT also operates United Vacations. MLT said it “doesn’t anticipate any negative reaction from our partners at United,” while MLT goes through its transition.
