CHICAGO — Two pioneers in luxury travel, Four Seasons founder Isadore Sharp and Abercrombie & Kent founder Geoffrey Kent, will mix with 40 guests on a private jet trip along the Silk Road next year.
The departure, titled “In the Footsteps of Legends: A Journey by Private Jet,” will run June 5-20, 2015.
Kent will join guests at the beginning of the trip, dining with them at Highclere Castle, the estate featured on PBS drama "Downton Abbey," before the trip departs from London.
When the trip concludes in Toronto 16 days later, the group will dine with Sharp at his home there.
In between, guests will visit Istanbul; Amman and Petra, Jordan; Samarkand, Uzbekistan; Bukhara and Baku, Azerbaijan; and St. Petersburg, Russia.
The price of the trip, aboard a chartered Boeing 737, is $69,995 per person, based on double occupancy.
The announcement was released at a meeting in Chicago of A&K’s 100 Club of top-producing travel advisers at the Four Seasons Hotel Chicago.
A&K USA's president, Phil Otterson, told the group it has prepared a 2015 “preview” brochure with dates and pricing on its Luxury Small Group Journeys product in advance of the full brochure, which is scheduled for release in June.
The luxury tour operator was motivated to do so after noticing a 33% lengthening of the booking window in the early months of 2014.
Among additions to the 2015 brochure:
• A “traveler’s valet” service will provide laundry service midway through Luxury Small Group Journeys trips.
• A new river cruiser on Myanmar’s Irrawaddy River, the Sanctuary Ananda, is being offered, with what the company says are the largest cabins in the country, each with a private balcony. (The first trips will depart in November of this year)
• A 22-day, 4,600-nautical mile Northwest Passage cruise from Kangerlussuaq, Greenland, to Anadyr, Russia, will depart Aug 22, 2015. Price: $24,995 per person, double, if booked by Oct. 31.
• A 26-day private jet trip beginning in the Amazon and heading northwest to Monaco, with stops in Easter Island, Samoa, Papua New Guinea, Bali, Sri Lanka, Madagascar and Kenya. “Islands, Savannas & the Amazon” will depart Oct. 12, 2015 Price: $108,000 per person, double.
