Canadian rail operator Rocky Mountaineer has launched a rail journey from Seattle to the Canadian Rockies, marking the first time the luxury train service has connected the U.S. and Canada.
The 10-day Coastal Passage route goes from Seattle, up the Pacific Northwest coastal shoreline to Vancouver, and then into the Canadian Rockies with stops in Kamloops and Jasper.
Guests then switch from rail to motorcoach to travel to the Columbia Icefield, Lake Louise, Banff and Calgary. Passengers overnight in Fairmont hotels throughout the itinerary. The route goes in both directions.
The rail portion of the Coastal Passage itinerary will take place on Rocky Mountaineer’s bilevel, glass-domed GoldLeaf train coach, where passengers take in the views in the glass-domed upstairs area and dine downstairs.
The Coastal Passage itinerary will depart Aug. 24 and 25, 2013 (one departure in each direction), with optional extended stays in Seattle, Vancouver, Banff and Jasper.
With the Coastal Passage itinerary, Rocky Mountaineer now offers five rail routes.
