New York-based SmarTours has joined the U.S. Tour Operators Association (USTOA), bringing to 54 the total number of USTOA active members, representing nearly 160 brands.

SmarTours was founded in 1996 and provides group tours in Africa, Asia, Australia, New Zealand, China, Europe, India, Nepal, Japan and Latin America. Since its launch, the company has served more than 150,000 travelers.

All SmarTours itineraries include international airfare from the U.S. on scheduled airlines, deluxe or first-class accommodations, excursions, sightseeing, and English-speaking local guides.

Each USTOA active member is required to participate in the USTOA’s $1 million Travelers Assistance Program by posting $1 million security in the form of a bond or letter of credit. The security is solely for reimbursing consumers for tour payments or deposits lost due to member bankruptcy, insolvency, cessation of business, or failure of a USTOA active member to refund consumer deposits or payments within 120 days following its cancellation by the tour operator.
