Travel agency network Virtuoso has re-established a preferred-supplier relationship with Abercrombie & Kent after a five-year hiatus.

In 2003, Virtuoso and the luxury tour operator mutually agreed to let their preferred-supplier relationship lapse to "give both parties some time to structure a relationship that is mutually beneficial," said George Morgan-Grenville, who was A&K's president at the time.

The change applied only to A&K's marketing office in Oak Brook, Ill., the tour operator's headquarters. Virtuoso has retained a preferred-supplier relationship with 19 of A&K's destination-management companies on the ground in Africa, Europe, Asia, Australia, New Zealand and South America through Virtuoso's on-site program.

Virtuoso member agencies now have access to A&K's entire product line, including A&K's Extreme Adventures, Yangzi Explorer and Clipper Odyssey programs and private jet excursions.

"Based on the high level of consumer demand we're seeing for life-enhancing experiences, Abercrombie & Kent offers diversity that complements our existing product portfolio," said Kristi Jones, president of Virtuoso.

"We have worked for years with Abercrombie & Kent as our on-site provider in many destinations, and Abercrombie & Kent, like Virtuoso, is a highly-regarded brand in the luxury market. This agreement formalizes a relationship between our organizations that combines Virtuoso's sales and marketing acumen with Abercrombie & Kent's product development."
