Action 6 agents happy to join

LOWELL, Mass. -- "It can only be positive because Action 6 always has taken very good care of its agents and wouldn't do anything that wasn't in our best interest," said Sandra Kleiner, owner of home-based Adams Travel in Adams, Mass., about the group's acquisition by

Her reaction was typical of Action 6 members who are generally positive about the news, citing the giant consortium's greater buying power and resources.

The members also said they trust their consortium's leadership to make the right decision about the group's future.

Action 6's Mike Spinelli and Dick Knodt of owner Paul Gustafson of Greater Falls Travel in Bellows Falls, Vt., and Greenfield, Mass., said Action 6 always has been a good resource for retailers.

"Mike Spinelli, a true friend of agents, sees this move as the best way to go because is a vertical company that can offer us a lot. I think we have to listen to him."

Kleiner added her view that would benefit Action 6 members in terms of resources and overrides. "I've heard good things about it -- it believes in training and educating its agents. I also like its size and think it will help my bottom line," she said.

Dick Shaw, co-owner of Majestic Cruises & Tours in Lexington, Mass., and a 10-year member, said, "This move will be a good one for us because we're going to get 30 more preferred suppliers, better technology and marketing and higher commissions. I'm not concerned about becoming part of a huge agent network."

Shaw was one of about 100 Action 6 members who attended a profit seminar on May 9 in Burlington, Mass., at which an announcement about the sale was made. The members responded well to the news, according to Shaw.

Among other agents contacted by Travel Weekly, Glenn Warren of Glenn Warren Travel in South Weymouth, Mass., a 20-year Action 6 member, said, "I think it's great as long as preserves the benefits Action 6 provided to smaller agencies such as close support, regional suppliers and overrides."

Judy Falk Aronson, owner of Cruises Plus in Baltimore, is hopeful the move will mean more benefits, such as increased buying power, resources and commissions.

"I've heard a lot of good things about and know it has a very good reputation," she added. "I'm really looking forward to working with because it's a big company; it has have more resources and technology."

Sharon Polidoro, manager of Berkshire Travel in Pittsfield, Mass., and an original Action 6 member, added that the move will give Action 6 a stronger marketing position and its members more products to sell.

"I'm very excited about the move, especially with the way the market has been going lately. Nowadays you have to merge and take advantage of each other's expertise to win.

"I think our members will profit in the long run. After all, in business, change is a good thing," Polidoro said.
