First Travel Alliance, whose parent company last year bought the travel and technology assets of YTB International, has officially launched its travel business.
First Travel Alliance is using YTB training and technology, and most of its 14,500 agents have transferred over from YTB.
One major distinction from YTB: First Travel Alliance is not a multilevel-marketing (MLM) company, so downline recruiting is not part of the business model.
Jeff Scott, president and CEO of Sixth Scott LLC, which launched First Travel, said that Sixth Scott will continue to work with YTB for another few months, as it transfers training and technology. First Travel Alliance has been selling travel since March.
Scott, a 30-year veteran of the travel industry who has worked at Hickory Travel Systems, TraveLeaders, Cendant and Worldspan, praised YTB’s training.
First Travel Alliance will continue to use that training, which includes a 10-module introductory course, followed by a course called "The Campus," which was designed by travel educator Marc Mancini.
First Travel Alliance sells a variety of travel, including cruises and tours, and has several preferred suppliers.
Agents start out with an online travel store, doing marketing to drive customers to their website. First Travel provides fulfillment services.
Agents can move up and become independent contractors by taking additional training.
First Travel Alliance is planning a series of regional conferences for its agents next year.
