The Dan and Gloria Bohan Foundation is providing ASTA with $20,000 toward membership development efforts this year.
The foundation is led by Gloria Bohan, president and CEO of Omega World Travel (No. 15 on Travel Weekly's 2019 Power List).
The foundation typically sponsors the ASTA Entrepreneur of the Year Award program, which each year awards $10,000 to an entrepreneur in the travel and hospitality industry. The foundation established the award in 2015, and it is given annually during the Society's global convention.
However, in light of the coronavirus crisis, ASTA said the foundation determined membership development would be a more apt use of funds this year. The foundation doubled its typical contribution.
"This support will supercharge our ongoing efforts to secure the maximum amount of coronavirus financial relief for our members and restore consumer confidence in the travel industry," ASTA president and CEO Zane Kerby said.
The Entrepreneur of the Year Award is expected to return in 2021.
Bohan said that in the beginning of her career as a travel agent in the 1970s, ASTA's correspondence course and other educational programs gave her confidence.
"Many careers have been enhanced by ASTA, and many dreams have become a reality through ASTA's steady hand in support of advisors," she said. "I believe the current crisis and its aftermath will bring more innovation to our industry, which we look forward to celebrating in 2021."
