LAS VEGAS — Virtuoso is expanding the number of hotels that members can book, adding inventory from the hotel program of ABC Global Services.

Virtuoso will add ABC’s 40,000-plus hotels this November, the travel agency group announced at Virtuoso Travel Week here.

According to David Kolner, senior vice president of global member partnerships, the goal of the partnership with ABC Global Services is “to give our members a way to earn higher commissions and get better rates for their clients at non-preferred properties.”

Those commissions could, potentially, be above 10%, he said. “We’re using the buying power of Virtuoso to negotiate a better commission arrangement for those agencies than they could probably get on their own,” Kolner said.

Agents can book ABC hotels via a rate code in their GDS. Virtuoso currently has about 1,100 preferred hotels in 100 countries; those properties will not be included in the ABC program.

Kolner said ABC’s inventory will fill gaps in Virtuoso’s offerings — for example, Kolner said he does not believe Virtuoso has a preferred hotel in Cleveland — while offering agents better rates and commissions than they might find otherwise.
