Having years of industry experience and employing independent contractors are two of the factors Virtuoso's top-producing agencies have in common, according to research conducted by the consortium


Virtuoso said it identified its 25 agencies with the highest production per agent, then looked at what those agencies have in common. The findings were unveiled during Virtuoso's Symposium, recently held in Vancouver.

Experience was one of the factors top agencies shared. On average, the agencies have 40 years of experience in the travel industry. While the newest has been in business for 20 years, 8% have been in business for over 70 years.

The top agencies have been with Virtuoso for an average of 20 years. An overwhelming majority, 88%, have been with the consortium for more than a decade.

While most (72%) of the top agencies have only one office location, nearly all of them employ independent contractors, Virtuoso found.

Virtuoso also identified the "secrets of success" for its top agencies through a series of interviews with executives.

That included engaging in the industry (the vast majority attend Virtuoso events, like the Symposium), prioritizing training, taking advantage of Virtuoso's suite of marketing tools, having a strong online presence and selling mostly Virtuoso preferred partners.
