Industry veterans write book on sales and marketing


Well-known industry educators Tom and Joanie Ogg teamed with cruise industry veteran Mitch Schlesinger to pen a book, "Marketing and Sales Prescriptions for Today’s Economy and Beyond," to be released next month.

The book will be available for sale at the Cruise3Sixty conference, April 3 to 6 in Fort Lauderdale.

The threesome tackled the issues of marketing, branding, client loyalty and sales, with today’s economic climate as a backdrop.

The book offers advice to agents on targeting their marketing, branding, online marketing and creating the kind of loyalty that will bring clients back time after time. One chapter is titled "Reenergizing Your Entrepreneurial Spirit," and it deals with succeeding in today’s market.

Schlesinger has been a marketing and sales executive at NCL, Orient Lines and Costa Cruises. Today, he is president of MJS Consulting.

Joanie Ogg was the longtime president of the National Association of Career Travel Agents (NACTA) and today is owner of Joanie Ogg Marketing Group. Her husband Tom, whose background includes stints in airline sales management and as owner of a Hawaii wholesale tour company, founded one of the industry’s first host travel agencies.

The Oggs have been frequent trainers for the travel trade, and together they have authored 10 books that have sold more than 50,000 copies.

Along with the new book, the Oggs are releasing updates of two previous books, "How to Start a Home-Based Travel Agency," now in its 14th edition, and "Selling Cruises, Don't Miss the Boat!"

All three books will be available for purchase by April 1 at and at upcoming trade shows and events.
