McGee orders failed Miami firm to pay $196,634 debt to ARC

FAIRFAX, Va. -- Travel agent arbiter William McGee ordered Florida International Travel Inc., a Miami firm that went into default and lost ARC accreditation in March 1999, to pay a $196,634 debt to ARC.

It was the largest amount in a string of cases in which McGee ordered formerly accredited agencies to pay their debts.

The arbiter has no enforcement powers, but ARC seeks such orders because it can ask a local court to confirm an order, then use the local law-enforcement apparatus to try to collect.

McGee issued these other orders to pay:

  • Airco Travel Agency of Chicago, which he said lost ARC accreditation in September 1998, was ordered to pay $7,336.
  • Amarilis B. Diaz (doing business as MG Travel) of the Bronx, N.Y., which he said lost ARC accreditation in June 1997, was ordered to pay $126,209.
  • Instant Travel Service Inc. of Springfield, Va., which he said lost ARC accreditation in May 1999, was ordered to pay $41,679.
  • Mark IV Travel Inc. of Blue Bell, Pa., which McGee said voluntarily relinquished ARC accreditation in August 1998, was ordered to pay $81,892.
  • Mirae International Tour & Travel Corp. of River Edge, N.J., which he said voluntarily relinquished ARC accreditation in February 1999, was ordered to pay $15,149.
  • Mirage Travel Inc. of Las Vegas, which he said lost

  • Starlight Tours Inc. of Bayside, N.Y., which he said lost ARC accreditation in February 1999, was ordered to pay $42,568.
