Hawaiian to launch turboprop unit

Hawaiian Airline's parent company, Hawaiian Holdings, is planning to launch another airline subsidiary to operate additional interisland routes with turboprop aircraft. The company said it has signed a letter of intent to acquire the aircraft but disclosed no further details, except to say "the turboprop subsidiary will allow Hawaiian to further expand capacity with daily flights to rural areas."

JetBlue squares off on Southwest route
JetBlue will take on Southwest Airlines when it launches flights to two Florida cities from Providence, R.I., on Nov. 29. The carrier will operate twice-daily service to Orlando and daily service to Fort Lauderdale, going head-to-head against Southwest on both routes.

Hainan Air gets Chicago route
China's Hainan Airlines received Transportation Department approval to serve Chicago. The carrier, which has been serving Seattle since 2008, intends to begin Chicago-Beijing service in the second quarter of 2013, possibly with 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

SLS hotel brand coming to NYC
The SLS luxury hotel brand will arrive in New York next year with the expected opening of a 190-room boutique property at Park Avenue South and E. 30th Street in Manhattan. SBE Entertainment Group, which has SLS-branded hotels in Beverly Hills, Calif., and Miami, also plans to reopen the Sahara Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas as the SLS Las Vegas Hotel & Casino in 2014.

Ensemble to add CCRA hotel access
The Ensemble agency cooperative agreed to provide its 850 members with a private-label version of CCRA's hotel booking engine, with access to more than 180,000 hotels. The customized portal will bias toward the 500-plus properties in the Ensemble Hotel & Resort Collection. Ensemble agencies will also be able to use the CCRA rate code for GDS access to CCRA negotiated rates at 26,300 hotels.

Adventure firm looks to Go South
Adventure travel firm Austin-Lehman Adventures is set to acquire Go South Adventures on Aug. 1 and to eventually phase out the brand. Go South, based in Seattle, specializes in South America and Antarctica, which will be new destinations for Austin-Lehman.

Sydney clears ships to use naval port
To accommodate cruise ships that cannot clear the Sydney Harbor Bridge, Sydney is opening its Garden Island naval base to large cruise ships. Cunard's Queen Mary 2, the Celebrity Millennium and Royal Caribbean's Radiance of the Seas have received permission to dock at Garden Island, which is southeast of the bridge.

Hilton rebrands Cape Cod property
Hilton renovated and reopened a former Radisson on Cape Cod as the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Cape Cod Hyannis. Located near the Barnstable Municipal Airport, the hotel is owned and operated by Ridgewood Hotel Associates under a franchise agreement.

Terry Williams has been named vice president of sales at MLT Vacations. Williams is a former vice president of United Vacations who has been with MLT for four years. She will oversee sales for all the MLT Vacations brands: Delta Vacations, Air France Holidays, Alitalia Vacations, United Vacations, Aeromexico Vacations and Worry-Free Vacations. Prior to joining MLT Vacations, Williams spent 28 years with Continental Airlines in a variety of sales and leadership positions, including managing Continental Airlines Vacations. • • • Viceroy Hotel Group appointed Bill Walshe CEO. Walshe, a 20-year veteran of the hospitality industry, formerly was with the Doyle Collection, a Dublin-based luxury hotel group. Prior to that, he served as chief marketing officer for the Dubai-based Jumeirah Group. • • • Silversea Cruises tapped Keith Spondike to be its vice president of marketing for the Americas, effective Aug. 6. Most recently, Spondike was chief marketing officer for Avantair, a private air travel services company. • • • Catherine McKenna is the new director of sales, North America, for Adare Manor, the castle-hotel and golf resort located near Limerick, Ireland; and the K Club, the manor house estate, golf and spa resort located near Dublin. McKenna was most recently director of global accounts for Peabody Hotels.
