U.S. seeks to expand preclearance airports
The U.S. is launching an initiative to expand the number of preclearance facilities at foreign airports, with the goal of preclearing a third of inbound travelers by 2024, up from 18% today. Currently, inbound air travelers can pre-clear U.S. customs and immigration at 15 airports in Aruba, the Bahamas, Bermuda, Canada, Ireland and Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. To increase that number, the Department of Homeland Security invited foreign nations to submit expressions of interest by Nov. 30.
Presidio facility to reopen Oct. 4
San Francisco's Presidio, the former military base that's administered by the National Park Service, hosted a dedication ceremony for the upcoming Oct. 4 reopening of its Officers' Club after a three-year, $30 million renovation project added hundreds of exhibits as well as a restaurant to the city's oldest building. The building will be open to the public every day except Mondays. Admission will be free.
Ryanair enters into deal with Amadeus
An agreement between Ryanair and Amadeus will enable Amadeus subscribers in the countries where Ryanair operates flights to book its fares and ancillary products starting Nov. 1.
San Francisco opens new cruise terminal
San Francisco last week dedicated its new cruise terminal, which had a soft opening with the arrival of a Princess Cruises ship. Terminal 27 totals 88,000 square feet on two levels. The existing terminal at Pier 35 will continue as a secondary terminal when there is more than one cruise ship in port.
L.A. tower developer taps InterContinental
InterContinental Hotels will be the brand on the 900-room hotel being developed as part of a downtown Los Angeles mixed-use project that will be the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it opens in 2017. The hotel, to be the chain's largest, will include a 70th-floor "sky lobby." Korean Air and Hanjin Group are spending $1.1 billion on the 73-story project on the former site of the Wilshire Grand. It will also include 400,000 square feet of offices and 45,000 square feet of retail space.
IHG New York Barclay closes for refurb
The 88-year-old InterContinental New York Barclay has shut down for a $175 million renovation that will take 18 months to complete. The 686-room hotel, which opened in midtown in 1926, will get upgrades to its guestrooms as well as a new restaurant, bar and InterContinental Club Lounge.
Fairmont to reflag Regent Bali resort
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts will take over management of the Regent Bali in December, about a year and a half after the 120-room resort opened. The 10-acre resort, which will be renamed the Fairmont Sanur Beach Bali, sits on about 700 feet of beachfront and is the only all-suites beachfront property in Sanur.
Wyndham to manage resort near Amboseli
Wyndham inked a deal to manage its first property in Africa under its flagship brand, the Wyndham Amboseli Golf Resort and Spa in Kenya. The 290-room resort, which includes an 18-hole golf course and conference center, is slated to open in 2017.

His 12 years of industry experience includes eight years as corporate finance director of AMResorts. Tammy Stone has been elevated to the post of marketing manager.
