This summer, ASTA embarked on a search for travelers who had vacations that went wrong. The Freemyer family of Sweetser, Ind., won after sharing the disastrous story of their honeymoon 12 years ago.

As a result, they won a vacation valued at up to $10,000, which Kocharhook -- an ASTA Verified Travel Advisor, Certified Travel Agent and Master Cruise Counselor -- will plan.

To enter the competition, advisers were given a "comprehensive travel profile" of the Freemeyers so they could create customized itineraries, said ASTA CEO Zane Kerby.

Kocharhook was chosen by an internal selection committee at ASTA.

ASTA director of communications Erika Richter said Kocharhook was selected because of her "over-and-above itinerary pitch, her creativity and her passion."

"When I heard about the Freemyers' failed vacation I immediately related to them," Kocharhook said in a statement. "My husband and I had a similar experience during our honeymoon when our car broke down. That mishap was just the beginning, but it toppled our entire plan, and budget. I remember what it felt like to wish for a honeymoon do-over."

The Freemyers’ new itinerary, designed by Kocharhook, will be revealed next month as part of ASTA's "Vacation Do Over" video series.
