The late Robert Porter Malmberg, of the Malmberg Travel Group in Boston, will be remembered at a celebration of his life on Friday, June 24.

Malmberg, a Boston native, died on Jan. 2. The 1952 Northeastern University graduate started his career in the travel in industry working Northeast Airlines’ ticket counter at Boston Logan Airport. He would go on to live in Paris, becoming a sought-after guide.

Malmberg founded Malmberg Travel Group in 1986. The company, a specialist in high-end leisure and corporate travel, today is a branch of Tzell Travel Group.

He sat on and chaired many cruise line, hotel and travel organization boards, and had a lifetime affiliation with the Travel Institute moderating study groups.

Malmberg received multiple awards and accolades, including being named to Travel + Leisure’s A-List of travel agents from 2004-2006. He was a specialist in South Africa and Vietnam.

He was a sailing enthusiast and instructed sailing at the Boston Sailing Club. 

Malmberg is survived by his husband, Dan, and daughter, Nora.

The June 24 service for Malmberg will be held at 2 p.m. On June 24 at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, 15 Newbury St., Boston. RSVP to [email protected].
