Amadeus on Tuesday announced the release of an airline ticket exchange system that the GDS provider claims will virtually eliminate exchange-related debit memos.

Amadeus Exchange Relief will allow travel agents to save time, provide better service and sell more, according to Amadeus, which also says it is the industry's first all-in-one exchange solution.

The system offers agents three servicing options for ticket exchanges. Under the "do it automatically" option, agents provide basic information about the ticket exchange, which the system processes. Under the "do it for me" option, agents submit their exchange to an Amadeus agent for processing. The "do it myself" option allows agents to enter the ticket exchange information manually, but with the assistance of a step-by-step guide that interacts with the Passenger Name Record.

In 2014, airlines issued nearly one-half million debit memos worth $138 million, according to the Airlines Reporting Corporation (ARC). Due to the scope of the problem, ARC formed a Debit Memo Working Group Steering Committee in February.
