Amadeus reports higher profit and market share

Amadeus for the first quarter reported higher revenue, earnings and distribution market share, thanks partly to a 2.9% year-over-year increase in agency air bookings to 119 million.

Growth came from emerging markets as well as North America, where Amadeus recently implemented a major deal with Expedia, and would have been higher if not for two fewer working days in the quarter than a year earlier.

Amadeus claimed a gain in its global share of agency air bookings of 1.6 percentage points to 39.8%, and said overall GDS industry growth was sluggish.

Profit in the quarter was 7.5% higher at 153 million euros (about $211 million), while operating income was up 5.1%.

Amadeus' distribution revenue increased 2.4% to 612 million euros (about $784 million), while its airline IT business grew revenue by 9.8% to 183 million euros (about $234 million).
