Travelocity sets consumer promotion

FORT WORTH, Texas--Travelocity, an on-line travel agency owned by the Sabre Group, said customers will earn 1,500 bonus frequent flyer miles each time in September that they book a hotel stay or car rental with a ticket on American, Continental, Northwest and United.

The trip must be completed by Dec. 31, and bonus miles can be claimed only for the airline the flight was booked on.

Travelocity also reported that:

  • Los Angeles was the No. 1 destination booked on Travelocity the first six months of 1998, followed by Atlanta, Denver, Orlando and San Francisco.
  • The "most watched" city-pair in Travelocity's FareWatcher e-mail service, which notifies subscribers when fares go up or down by more than $25, was Boston to San Francisco.
  • A summer vacation survey of Travelocity users showed 31% took two vacations this summer and 49% took one.
  • Most customers spent less than $2,000 on their summer vacations.
