Taj has opened two significant properties; one in Germany and another in South Africa. Taj is owned by Indian Hotels Company (IHCL), India’s largest hospitality company.
Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt marks the brand’s entry into Continental Europe, while Taj Bush Lodge, Greater Kruger in South Africa is the first of three lodges that will open in the park over the next few months.
Mr. Puneet Chhatwal, managing director & CEO, IHCL, said that the entrance into Continental Europe “is in line with our international strategy to grow our presence in key gateway cities of the world. We are delighted to reopen this iconic landmark following its extensive renovations and bringing the warmth of Tajness to Frankfurt.”
The renovated and reflagged hotel is the former Grandhotel Hessischer Hof, a notable five-star hotel in the city that’s close to the Frankfurt Exhibition Centre.

The "Tajness" Chhatwal speaks of can be found throughout 126-key Taj Hessischer Hof Frankfurt. Eateries include a Bombay Brasserie, known for its authentic, eclectic Bombay and Indian cuisine; Jimmy’s Bar, known for its live piano performances and signature cocktails; and the Lobby Bar, a daytime café serving teas, coffees and pastries.
The hotel also has Taj’s signature J Wellness Circle, a spa rooted in the ethos of Ayurveda. Three venues are available for board meetings and private receptions while The Chambers is Taj’s members-only business club venue.
Taj Bush Lodge, Greater Kruger, South Africa opens
Taj has also opened the first of three luxury wilderness lodges in Greater Kruger, South Africa. The brand already has the Taj Cape Town in the region.
Spanning nearly five million acres, Kruger National Park is one of Africa’s largest and well-known game reserves known for its rich biodiversity and exceptional wildlife sightings, including the famed Big Five.
Located within the Big Five Balule Nature Reserve, the six-suite Taj Bush Lodge also has a J Wellness Circle for holistic wellness therapies. Breakfast is served in an open-air setting following morning game drives. Other activities include full-day safaris in Kruger National Park, a Blyde Canyon boat cruise, quad biking through the Maseke Reserve and day trips along the Panorama Route. All suites have wilderness views.
This new lodge will be complemented by two additional Taj lodges in the park, set to open in the coming months.
