Rob Fixmer from 2005 to 2020 was the editor of Travel Weekly, responsible for overseeing Travel Weekly’s editorial staff and all aspects of the news operation in print and on digital platforms. He retired from the post in March 2020 but plans to continue contributing to the publication. He began his career at his hometown newspaper, The (Madison, WI) Capital Times, upon graduating from the University of Wisconsin-Madison School of Journalism and Mass Communication. In 1986, he moved to the Dallas Times Herald as lead business writer, then served in turn as that paper’s Sunday Editor, State Editor and Deputy Metro Editor.

In 1991, he joined the National Desk of the New York Times, where he served variously as Wire Editor, Assignments Editor and Weekend Editor. Four years later, he was named Cybertimes Editor, one of three staff members chosen by the Times to found the New York Times website. He returned to the newsroom in 1998 as the Times’ Technology News Editor and Personal Computing columnist. Fixmer left the Times in 2000 to become Editor-in-Chief of Interactive Week, a leading technology trade newspaper published by Ziff Davis.
