The FAA is accepting more comments on the Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast, or ADS-B, the part of its upgraded Next Generation air traffic control plan that tracks, pinpoints and broadcasts an aircraft's location, speed and altitude.
The initial comment period had closed in March, but the FAA earlier this month reopened its docket for another 30 days to allow for public reaction to the recent report of an advisory committee.
That group, the Aviation Rulemaking Committee, had challenged some of the FAA's previous assumptions about the costs and benefits of the system, including a projection that fuel would cost $1.83 per gallon.
