Romance packages take center stage

By Donna Tunney

The big winter holidays are nearly over, and that means it's time for luxury agents to start thinking about the next big thing. The answer for some is Valentine's Day.

We did a little research and came up with a handful of interesting options clients might want to consider.

Lifelong adventurers Leslie and Bill McConnell have joined Montana's Triple Creek Ranch as the Relais & Chateaux property's new co-general managers. The duo assumed their posts following careers as importers and wholesalers of fine wool and silk Oriental rugs.

Their arrival kicked off the ranch's new series of nine three-, four- or five-night winter weekends, each designed to celebrate Montana's snow season in a different way. A Romance Weekend, priced at $4,100, lets couples rekindle romance while roaring fires keep luxury cabins toasty warm. For information and reservations, visit the website at www.triplecreekranch.com.

In Sedona, Ariz., Mii amo's Couples: Body and Soul Partners retreat promises to "immerse clients in an exploration of their relationship potential" during a four-night stay. The vacation, Mii amo says, will help clients "rediscover masculine and feminine energy, and its importance for your communication skills to deepen your connection, intimacy and respect for one another."

The package covers three meals a day, several spa treatment and fitness classes including yoga, nature walks, aqua aerobics, dance, Pilates and tai chi. Rates are from $3,124.80 per person. For reservations, call (888) 749-2137.

For clients who'd like to get a bit farther away, Connoisseurs Scotland offers an alternative. Four of its properties, Cringletie House, the Boath House Hotel, Inverlochy Castle and Turnberry Resort, invite couples to replace the standard chocolates and roses found elsewhere with luxuriant bedrooms, candle-lit dinners in Michelin-starred restaurants, in-room massages and the best of champagnes.

Cringletie House, for exmaple, set in the Scottish Borders region, is offering one or two nights in luxury accommodations with its Love Me Tender package. The first evening features a bottle of champagne served in two silver-plated keepsake champagne flutes, a private candle-lit dinner in the library, discounted in-room massages, and an in-room bubble bath with candle illumination -- followed the next morning with breakfast in bed. Prices per couple, per room, are from $569 per night. Email for details: enquiries@cringletie.com.

'Perhaps American should focus on flying a financially reliable airline instead of spending countless resources on fighting agents and GDSs in expensive courts and threatening to pull out of the distribution channels that feed it money.'
