Atlantis Submarines gets Green Globe certification

By Gay Nagle Myers

Atlantis Submarines is the first attraction in Aruba -- and the only submarine company in the world -- to be certified by Green Globe.

"This certification signals that we have started down a positive path to measure and reduce our carbon footprint and to increase our positive impact on the environment," said Reinder Fit, Atlantis Submarines' general manager.

During the slowdown in business this year, Atlantis Submarines identified areas where environmental measures could be developed and improved.

"We already had a number of safety, quality and preventative maintenance programs in place. With Green Globe we now have environmental education and management systems in place, as well," Fit said.

Atlantis Submarines in Aruba is part of the largest fleet of recreational subs in the world. It offers daily trips to explore the reef off the southeast coast of Aruba.

Other Caribbean locations include Barbados, Cozumel, Curacao, Grand Cayman and St. Martin.
