Carnival ship damaged in St. Kitts

By Johanna Jainchill

The Carnival Miracle sustained a 15-foot-long gash after colliding with a pier in St. Kitts while maneuvering to dock Thursday morning.

In a statement, Carnival Cruise Lines said that there were no injuries to passengers or crew as a result of the incident, which took place at 8:35 a.m., but that the ship would have to spend an unplanned night in St. Kitts in order to undergo repairs.

Carnivals said the repairs to the 15-foot-long by two-foot-wide tear on the ship's forward port side, adjacent to three crew cabins, were underway and are expected to be completed Friday.

The Miracle was at its last port of call on an eight-day cruise from Fort Lauderdale; its expected arrival time in Port Everglades on Sunday is still to be determined, pending its departure from St. Kitts.
