Gay Nagle Myers was on the Malt Shop Memories Cruise on the Carnival Inspiration. Her third and final dispatch follows. Click to read her first and second dispatches.
It’s the last day of the Malt Shop Memories Cruise, and no one onboard is slowing down. In fact, we’re hoppin’ and boppin’ stronger than ever.
News of the winter storm on the U.S. East Coast has filtered in, more reason to keep jivin’.
For oldies fans, it doesn’t get any better than this.
The Beach Boys rocked the ship last night, performing two shows in the Paris Lounge, wrapping up with “Little Surfer Girl,” a perfect musical tribute as the Carnival Inspiration rolled a bit on choppy seas.
Bad weather forced the Malt Shop team to scratch the original outdoor beach party on the Lido deck and pull it inside, but the shows came off without a hitch.
The Beach Boys admitted they are new to cruising, but they just may be converts to this type of travel.
Many of the 1,771 passengers on the ship are new to cruise travel, as well.
But as Michael Laseroff, executive director of Entertainment Cruise Productions (which produced this theme cruise in partnership with Time Life) told a group of travel agents Sunday morning: “The input of travel agents is so important. You’re the travel pros, and we want to assist you because you are the ones selling the cabins.”
Next year’s Malt Shop cruise, Oct. 27 to Nov. 2, moves to Holland America Line’s Eurodam, sailing out of Fort Lauderdale with three ports of call.

Meanwhile, before the Inspiration dropped anchor Monday morn, I was booked solid.
The sock hop on Sunday afternoon turned up miles of tuille, pink satin, poodle skirts, saddle shoes, bomber jackets, blonde wigs, cardigan sweaters buttoned up the back and gaudy senior class rings on gold chains around the necks of girlfriends/wives.
The Devotions performed before dinner, the Del Rays after dinner, followed by the winner of the Elvis Tribute Contest, a line dancing contest and show time in the Paris Lounge with all the artists on board.
I love that old time rock 'n' roll, that kind of music just soothes the soul.
