EasyCruise Life expected to continue sailing after running aground

The EasyCruise Life ran aground in the Aegean islands Friday, after less than a month in service.

The ship ran aground in a sandy area of the port of Syros, a Greek island, with 353 passengers and 105 crew on board. According to Paul Ellerby, EasyCruise sales and marketing director, the ship was able to dock "safely" in port and no injuries or damage had been reported.

The ship, on a seven-day cruise that ends in Athens on Saturday, left Syros and is expected to "proceed as normal," Ellerby said. He added that passengers were able to disembark at Syros on Friday as scheduled.

The ship has not had a smooth entry into the fleet; its maiden cruise was delayed a month due to labor strikes in Greece.
