Four cruise lines pull Nassau tour

By Gay Nagle Myers

Four cruise lines serving Nassau have temporarily canceled the Segway tour to the Earth Village attraction near Nassau in the wake of recent robberies of cruise groups participating in that tour.

Travel Weekly reported last week that Disney and Royal Caribbean temporarily canceled the Segway tour after groups from the Disney Wonder and Navigator of the Seas were robbed by armed men in broad daylight on Nov. 20.

Carnival and Norwegian Cruise Line also have temporarily pulled the tour. All four cruise lines continue to offer several other shore excursions in and around Nassau.

Police have not charged anyone in the robberies. One suspect was questioned for two days but released on the grounds of insufficient evidence, according to the Nassau Guardian.

On Oct. 11, gun-toting thugs held up a group of nine cruise passengers and their tour guide at the Queen’s Staircase attraction in Nassau. No arrests have been made in that case.

In response to the crimes, the Bahamas said that it has stepped up police patrols in popular tourist areas in Nassau.
