Report: Italian couple sues cruise line over 'gay cruise'

By Johanna Jainchill

An Italian couple is suing a cruise line for about $4,000 alleging that they were not told the vacation they purchased was a gay-themed cruise.

According to London-based Daily Mail newspaper, an unnamed middle-aged husband and wife were "embarrassed after spotting people they knew, but had not realized were gay," on a cruise by Naples, Italy-based Grimaldi Lines from Civitavecchia, Italy, to Barcelona, Spain.

The couple booked the cruise last month using loyalty points from a supermarket, the report said, and didn't realize the cruise was gay-themed until their arrival at the port, where TV crews were covering the "Revuelta gay cruise," Italy's first all homosexual cruise.

The report quotes the lawyer representing the couple as saying that the couple booked directly with the cruise line and was not told about the Revuelta cruise.

The report also said that the cruise organizers, Gay.It, said that the suit was "a clear case of homophobia."
