Royal Caribbean promotes two executives

By Johanna Jainchill

Royal Caribbean International made two promotions this week, with Ken Muskat being named vice president to oversee the growth of the cruise line’s consumer outreach efforts and Joanne Schimelman appointed to vice president of sales and national accounts.

Schimelman now manages the day-to-day functions of the entire North American sales force. Muskat oversees the team handling direct sales.

Muskat, most recently the line’s vice president of sales, has been with the Royal Caribbean for more than 15 years, serving in a variety of positions in hotel operations, strategic planning, marketing and sales. He recently hosted the cruise industry’s first weekly online radio show for travel trade and consumers.

In her most recent position as vice president of national account sales, Schimelman managed some of Royal Caribbean’s largest accounts, including consortia, home-based networks, franchise organizations and online channels.

Schimelman has more than 15 years of cruise line sales and marketing experience. In 2008, she moved to Royal Caribbean from Carnival Cruise Lines, where she was director of partnership marketing for Carnival.
