Silversea ship enters service

By Johanna Jainchill

Silversea Cruises' first new ship since 2001 embarked Thursday on its maiden cruise, an 11-day sailing from Barcelona to Lisbon.

The Silver Spirit will call in Malaga, Gibraltar, Cadiz, Casablanca and Tangier.

Amerigo Perasso, Silversea's president and CEO, said in a statement that building the Spirit "represents our commitment to the development of the Silversea brand."

The 36,000-ton, 540-passenger vessel is the largest of Silversea’s six-ship fleet. It has 95% balcony accommodations.
