Eurail sees dip in riders from North America

By Felicity Long
Eurail Group reported a 5.6% increase in the number of non-European Eurail passengers in 2011 over the previous year, although sales from North America dipped by 3.6%.

March and May were record months, and the best-selling pass remains the Eurail Select Pass, which represents more than a third of the overall market share and demonstrates the current trend toward passengers visiting fewer countries.

Rene de Groot, Eurail managing director, said, “2011 was a positive year despite the global recession and the fact that the North American market is still struggling.”
