The Louvre museum in Paris reopened to visitors on Thursday, following a walkout by staff on Wednesday to protest the increasing number of pickpockets operating within the museum.
More than 200 employees went on strike because they were fed up trying to deal with the thieves, who were "becoming more numerous and more aggressive," according to a spokesman for SUD, the French group of trade unions.
The walkout ended after management agreed to a series of measures aimed at reinforcing police presence around the building.
"The services of justice and the police have been mobilized," a museum spokesman said.
The Louvre reportedly is the world's most-visited museum, attracting more than 10 million visitors a year. The Louvre is followed by the British Museum and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art.
