Vienna records 11.4 million overnights in 2011

By Felicity Long

Vienna is waltzing into the New Year on the heels of record 5% growth in overnight visitors.

In all, the city posted 11.4 million overnights in 2011, more than a half-million of whom were from the U.S.

In addition, travelers are venturing to Vienna beyond the already strong May, July, August and September months, according to tourism director Norbert Kettner: For the first time, April, June, October and December each recorded more than a million overnights. The strong numbers extended across all accommodation categories, he said.

“The fact that our overall result so significantly exceeded 2010’s record confirms once again our strategy of diversification and continual expansion into new markets," said Kettner.
