Hawaiian Airlines again finishes on top in on-time performance

By Shane Nelson

Hawaiian Airlines finished 2011 as the nation’s No. 1 on-time airline, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Air Travel Report released Feb. 14. The carrier has finished first in the DOT’s on-time rankings eight years in a row.

Hawaiian earned the top ranking in 11 out of 12 months last year and finished 2011 with an on-time average of 92.8%, outpacing the industry’s average by 13.2 percentage points. The only month the carrier did not top the charts was December, when Hawaiian posted an on-time average of 91%, less than a percentage point behind AirTran Airways.

“To achieve a nearly 93% on-time rate over the entire year reflects the dedication that Hawaiian’s employees bring to the job every day to provide our customers with the very best in service and reliability,” said Mark Dunkerley, Hawaiian’s president and CEO. “We congratulate AirTran Airways for earning the top spot in December, and we look forward to the challenge of regaining that position in 2012.”

Hawaiian also canceled the fewest flights in 2011, according to the DOT’s report. Of the carrier’s 66,740 total flights, only 122 were canceled.
