In the Caribbean section of the Travel Weekly issue of Sept. 19, there was an article about the new vacation packages to the Grand Lucayan in Freeport using new air service with Vision Airlines ["'Barefoot elegance' at newly renamed Grand Lucayan"].
General Manager Benjamin Davis failed to mention that these new low-fare packages are not commissionable to travel agents. To get a commissionable rate with a tour operator, the cost is hundreds of dollars higher. I know because I have attempted to book the packages from Raleigh-Durham with both Vision Airlines and with Grand Lucayan, and both have advised that the packages are noncommissionable to travel agents. Apparently these vendors think we are willing to work for free.
