Resort developer Grupo Vidanta plans to build a Cirque du Soleil theme park in Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico. The partners are targeting a 2018 opening.
Each park experience will be “animated by Cirque du Soleil artists,” Grupo Vidanta said. An outdoor evening show will accommodate 3,000 to 5,000 spectators.
Cirque du Soleil founder Guy Laliberte said, “Grupo Vidanta is offering us an amazing sandbox in which we can unleash our creativity.”
Grupo Vidanta and Cirque already have collaborated on “Joya,” a Cirque du Soleil show making its debut on Nov. 21 at the new 600-seat Vidanta Theater near the Grand Mayan Riviera Maya resort.
“The demand we've seen for ‘Joya’ before even launching makes us confident future projects will be met with success,” said Grupo Vidanta founder Daniel Chavez Moran.
