Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo hopes to make a name for itself on the culinary scene next year with its inaugural Food & Wine Festival planned for March 26 to 28. The event, designed to showcase authentic Mexican cuisine, is sponsored by Food & Wine magazine and the Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo Convention and Visitors Bureau.
Local and international chefs are scheduled to conduct seminars, presentations and tours in the two neighboring cities, which are within about a 10-minute drive of each other in the Pacific coast state of Guerrero. Ticket availability and a festival lineup are expected to be announced within a few weeks.
Food & Wine presents other such annual food festivals, in Aspen, Colo.; New York and Miami's South Beach. It is the magazine's first venture in Latin America.
"We are honored to host Food & Wine and usher in a new era of celebrating the food of Mexico. Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo represent the best the country has to offer, not only in terms of cuisine but also as a unique destination for world travelers," CVB Chairman Higinio de Leon said in a statement.
