InsightTravelers who want their vacation dollars to go toward a worthy cause might consider booking at one of Mexico Boutique Hotels’ 33 member properties.

The online company is pledging 5% of booking revenues for the Peace Mexico Alternative School in Punta Mita. The school offers underprivileged youth a place to overcome abusive homes, poverty and lack of schooling or learning disabilities to help integrate them into the regular school system.

The Peace school — its name is an acronym for Protection and Education: Animals, Culture and Environment — is home to 19 at-risk children ages 6 to 15, some of whom have never before set foot in a classroom.

Since the school opened in 2007, seven children already have been integrated into the formal school system and are doing well, said Sylvie Laitre, director for Mexico Boutique Hotels.

According to Laitre, the company has also “put initiatives in place that not only will have a positive impact on our member hotels’ neighborhoods but also will allow guests to participate on different levels.”

“This is a win-win situation,” Laitre said. “Travelers have an unforgettable vacation, and the kids have an opportunity to change their lives around.”
