The word “sustainability” is bandied about by numerous hotel companies these days, but Riu Hotels & Resorts has ramped up the talk with its launch of a sustainability website as part of the company’s Corporate Social Responsibility Action Plan.
The launch of the site marks another step in Riu’s efforts at transparency and reinforces its commitment to the environment and community at large, according to CEO Carmen Riu.
Information includes the company’s policies, plans and updates on various projects, such as protection of the sea turtle in various habitats, enactment of the code against the sexual exploitation of minors in the tourism sector and the listing of its properties that have received the Travelife awards for environmental and social responsibility.
The site contains the policies signed by the company’s board of directors as well as material published by Riu to inform employees and customers of its work in the sustainability arena.
The site, available in Spanish and English, also can be accessed via a link from Riu’s home page.
The Spanish-based hotel chain has more than 100 properties in 16 countries, including 17 resorts in six locations in Mexico.
