The top executive for Resorts World Las Vegas is no longer with the project and has been replaced,
according to a Jan. 21 article by Howard Stutz of the Las Vegas Review-Journal.
Christian Goode will no longer oversee the development and operations of the $4 billion Strip property being developed by Malaysia-based development company Genting. He has been replaced by Gerald Gardner, a former chief of staff to Nevada Gov. Brian Sandoval.
The article also noted that, despite the change in leadership, Genting still plans to break ground on the Asian-themed resort, located across from the Wynn and Encore on Las Vegas Boulevard, between April and June. Groundbreaking for the resort was originally planned for mid-2014, with phase one of the project opening in 2016.
Travel Weekly and other media discovered and shared a video released by EB5 Select, a group of EB5 visa investment consultants, in December showing 3-D renderings of the property. That video has since been removed from Vimeo. Inquiries about funding status for the property and whether the date for construction and opening were changing were met with the following response from a Resorts World representative: “As for Resorts World Las Vegas, nothing has really changed.”
Gardner is an attorney and was chief of staff to Sandoval for more than a year. According to Stutz, Genting has yet to name a construction manager for Resorts World Las Vegas and hopes to do so by this month.
The entire construction project will take several years to complete and will include at least two or three phases. During the initial phase, highlights of the property are expected to include 3,000 hotel rooms, a casino floor, several bars and restaurants, and a 4,000-seat theater.
