Downtown’s Plaza Hotel & Casino on Jan. 4 began work on a multimillion-dollar upgrade to its 70,000-square-foot rooftop pool deck that will add new cabanas, bars, daybeds and decor.

It’s a update of the venue that was part of the recent Plaza’s major overhaul in 2010, when the hotel closed and laid off its staff, reopening 10 months and $35 million later in August 2011.

Plaza CEO Jonathan Jossel said: “The new rooftop pool will offer guests a modern poolside destination downtown that still reflects the Plaza’s classic Vegas ambience. In addition to comfortable and fun new poolside amenities, we will offer guests live entertainment, gaming and a full menu of food and beverage options. We will create a pool experience unlike any other in downtown Las Vegas that our hotel guests and locals will love.”

The project is expected to be completed in time for summer.
