Solving the language barrier

While the influx of Russian travelers pleases hotels and resorts on Mexico’s Riviera Maya, there are a few challenges. The language barrier, for example, is a tough one.

One general manager at an all-inclusive resort solved that one through the online purchase of several Spanish-Russian phrase books that now are part of the arsenal at the front desk, along with currency-conversion charts and the Aeroflot schedule (the carrier has a weekly flight between Moscow and Cancun).

Vodka is another problem.

“We just can’t seem to stock enough of it,” the G.M. said.
