Jamaica’s two international airports in Kingston and Montego Bay have completed passenger enhancements.
At Norman Manley Airport in Kingston, improvements include a three-level departures concourse with 66 check-in positions, a new baggage system and an expanded parking garage.
Four more passenger bridges were installed, bringing the total to eight. The arrivals area has been renovated, including the customs and immigration halls.
Work also will continue on the Kingston Pineapple Lounge in the transportation hall where visitors and groups transfer to the island’s resort areas. An executive lounge with a Jamaican theme in the departures area will be expanded later this year.
In 2012, Norman Manley expects to open new baggage-handling facilities and extend cargo and maintenance taxiways.
Sangster Airport in Montego Bay has installed 20 more check-in kiosks, bringing the total to 40. More retail shops will be added this year.
Prime Minister Bruce Golding will open the Ian Fleming Airport on the island’s north coast near Ocho Rios on Jan. 12. The $300 million facility will cater primarily to private jets and will include a passenger lounge, pilot briefing room and customs and immigration points.
