Delta’s new Terminal 4 at Kennedy Airport in New York opened on Friday, featuring renovated check-in areas and several new restaurants and shops.

Delta partnered with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and JFK International Air Terminal LLC to open the terminal, which also has nine new and seven renovated international gates, an in-line baggage system, an improved Customs and Border Protection area and a centralized security checkpoint.

Plus, the terminal has a new 24,000-square-foot Delta Sky Club with an outdoor terrace.

Measuring 2 million square feet, Terminal 4 is now one of the largest airport terminals in North America.

With the new Terminal 4 marking the completion of Phase 1 of Kennedy’s $1.4 billion redevelopment program, construction on Phase 2, which includes the addition of 11 gates on Terminal 4’s Concourse B, will commence immediately and is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2015.

Upon completion, Terminal 4’s Concourse B will have 27 Delta gates and replace Delta’s current Terminal 2 regional jet facility.

Delta has currently ceased operations at Terminal 3, and the site is slated to redeveloped for operational use.
