Grenada's director of tourism, William Joseph, has been suspended from his post for two weeks after he failed to welcome the inaugural flight of Canadian-based Sunwing Airlines to the island on Nov. 24, according to published reports.
Joseph's suspension followed an inquiry into the incident by the Grenada Hotel and Tourism Association, according to the reports.
The lack of an official greeting for the flight and welcome ceremony for the delegation aboard, which included top-ranking airline officials and Grenada's consul general to Canada, prompted a public outcry for an investigation.
The Grenada Board of Tourism claimed that it did not know the launch date of the service, while other reports suggested that there was no official welcome because the flight arrived in Grenada at 5 a.m.
An official welcoming ceremony is now planned for later this week.
Sunwing is scheduled to make weekly flights to Grenada from Toronto during the winter season and twice-weekly flights in the summer.
