Ryanair to charge passengers emissions fee

Ryanair on Jan. 17 will add a fee of 0.25 euros on all bookings to offset the cost it expects to incur from the European Union Emissions Trading Scheme.

Ryanair projected that its 2012 expenses related to emissions trading would total 15 million to 20 million euros.

Several other airlines have raised fares or fuel surcharges following the Jan. 1 start of the Emissions Trading Scheme.
