Virgin America eyes Toronto and Orlando service

By Michael Fabey

Virgin America is planning an expansion into more long-haul markets.

The airline is seeking Transportation Department approval to start its first international service in June – daily flights to Toronto from Los Angeles and San Francisco.

Virgin America says it will start serving Orlando daily from both Los Angeles and San Francisco on Aug. 19.

To handle the additional markets, the airline is growing its fleet size by about a third by the first quarter of next year.

Also, Virgin America is ending service at John Wayne Airport in Orange County, Calif., on May 26.

"Given Virgin America's new fleet plan, the move will allow the airline to immediately launch service into the more lucrative Orlando and Toronto long-haul markets," said Virgin America.
