Raves for Virgin Trains, but not its stations

By Felicity Long

Passengers gave high marks to Britain's Virgin Trains, particularly in the categories of value, price, staff and overall satisfaction, but turned thumbs down on its train stations, according to the National Passenger Survey, published by Passenger Focus, an independent consumer watchdog for mass transit in Britain.

Scores for stations used by Virgin Trains passengers were ranked below average in several areas, prompting calls for Virgin Trains to be allowed to take greater control of station management.

Currently, Virgin Trains has day-to-day responsibility for managing 17 of the 43 stations it serves; the rest are managed by Network Rail.
