American Express Travel (No. 3 on the Travel Weekly 2105 Power List, jointly with American Express Global Business Travel) rolled out a promotion this month in honor of its 100th anniversary.
“Here’s to the Journeymakers” provides two simple tools to help travelers say thank you to individuals in the service industry, such as tour guides, bartenders, inn operators and concierges, who went beyond what was necessary during a recent trip.
“We were working off the insight that when you travel you encounter extraordinary people, people who make the travel experience more memorable,” said Laura Fink, American Express Travel vice president. “And we wanted to recognize those people.”
The first tool provides a Web platform on which travelers can write a personal thank you note, which American Express Travel will then mail to the recipient. As long as that recipient’s workplace is within the TripAdvisor database, American Express will take care of finding the physical address.
The second tool helps travelers prepare a social postcard thanking their “journeymaker.” The postcard will then be displayed on the promotion’s website, and its author can also post the card on social media pages. Visit www.journeymakers.com to participate.
The “Here’s to the Journeymakers” campaign will extend through at least the end of the year, Fink said.
